Bastion High School originated on April 22, 1981, under the name Hoërskool Mindalore, with a modest beginning of 13 teachers and 207 students enrolled in grades 8 and 9. The institution later adopted the name Hoërskool Bastion, drawing inspiration from the street names in the surrounding area.
The name Bastion carries deep symbolic meaning, representing a castle, fortress, or fort. This symbolism stems from historical settlements where castles were constructed as protective strongholds against external threats.
Just as ancient settlements expanded outward from their protective bastions where valuable assets were safeguarded, Bastion High School stands as a protective sanctuary for its students.
