Mthashana TVET College is one of nine Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in KwaZulu-Natal. Guided by its vision to be the preferred center of learning excellence, the college is dedicated to empowering students with quality education and skills.
Located in the northern region of KwaZulu-Natal, Mthashana TVET College operates within a vast area that spans three district municipalities: Zululand, uMkhanyakude, and uMzinyathi. The college serves communities in a region marked by high unemployment rates and widespread poverty, with levels reaching up to 79% in some areas. The total population of approximately 1.4 million people faces significant challenges, as only 45% are employed, 7% have completed grade four as their highest level of education, and 36% have no formal schooling at all. The lack of industrial development in the region further exacerbates these socio-economic difficulties.
As a rural institution, Mthashana TVET College occupies a critical role in addressing these challenges, providing accessible education and training opportunities to underserved and needy communities. By equipping students with practical skills and knowledge, the college is actively contributing to breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering sustainable development in the region.
